What Is IUI?
With this technique, prepared sperm is inserted into the female’s uterus at the most fertile time. This technique may use the male partner’s sperm or, if required, donor sperm.
How IUI Works
Treatment can include a natural or a stimulated cycle, and scans on a regular basis. When two or less follicles have developed to the appropriate size, an injection is given which helps get the oocytes ready for fertilisation. On the day of IUI, the male partner is requested to attend the clinic to provide a sample. This will be prepared in the lab with the IUI procedure itself taking about 15 minutes. It is a simple procedure which doesn’t require any sedation or pain relief. There is a 15 to 20% success rate with this method. We recommend up to three IUI attempts.
Who Needs IUI?
- Women under the age of 40 with patent (open) fallopian tubes
- Women with a normal ovarian reserve profile
- Women not suffering with Endometriosis
